laser fume extraction guidance

// GAS / CHEMICAL FILTRATION

Gas Filters are an optional component of laser fume extraction modules. They are usually specified at the point of sale depending on the nature of the substrate being cut. PVC for example gives off harmful acid which must be neutralised, also many of the more toxic chemicals within laser fume such as benzene, phosgene require a gas medium to capture and neutralise their effects.

Modern gas filters are made up of a 50/50 mix of activate carbon and aluminium permanganate. VOC's require this type in almost all cases. Where PVC is concerned an additional filter is necessary using fibres coated in sodium hydroxide, which neutralises the gas into water vapour.
